Open Question: Ferry route to get me closest to Fairbanks?

I'm seriously considering the University of Alaska Fairbanks for college. And in order to keep my vehicle and avoid driving the entire way from Texas, I was thinking of driving to like Bellingham, WA or a likewise port and take a ferry. So my questions are: 1. Which port will get me closest to Fairbanks in order to cut that drive time down (i.e. I don't want to be driving up there from Juneau haha) 2. Do you recommend a certain ferry system? 3.
